Epilepsy in the US: A Growing Public Health Concern

The CDC has updated the US national estimate of epilepsy prevalence and estimates 3.4 million people are affected by epilepsy.

Epilepsy is gaining increased public health awareness as people with epilepsy experience increasing health and socioeconomic inequalities despite advances in treatment options.

The CDC estimates that in 2015, 3.4 million Americans were afflicted with active epilepsy, 470,000 of which were children. People with epilepsy often have multiple comorbidities making management of their epilepsy difficult.
